Blue Wing Olive ( Serratella ignita) is widely distributed throughout Europe and on British Isles in almost any running water habitat: weed beds under stones, rocks and dead  logs, gravel and anywhere in the stream where the substrate offers food, protection and shelter. BWO is very important summer fly, because of its numerous appearance and prolonged period of hatching, from April till October. Our favotrite dry pattern is CDC Dun. It is proven as very effective during hatches of BWO and other similar upwinged flies.
CDC Dun, used materials in order of tying:
Hook: dry fly hook 12-18 (we’ve used Tiemco 531#12)
Thread: brown 12/0, thinner is better, you can make more wraps without change of the body shape.
Tail: few fibers of Cock de Leon
Body: stripped cock’s quill, brown, olive, cream any color to match the body of natural
Cover of thorax: polyacrilic thread, it splits the wings
Thorax: rusty brown dubbing (Fly Rite floats great)
Forewings: CDC fibers in bunch
Front wings: CDC points with some quill in the center.

1 Step; tie the tying thread in the middle of the hook shank,
CDC Dun step2  2Step: spinn the thread , it will become rounded, build small ball wityh wraps
CDC Dun step33 Step:Cock de Leon fibers are wrapped with 1,5 turns of the tread
CDC Dun step5
4 Step: tight the thread close to the ball so the fibers will spread in horizontal plane, secure it with few more turns
CDC Dun step6
5 Step: to avoid braking of the quill dip it in warm water for few minutes.Tie 4-6 strands of brown body thread of the top of the thorax
CDC Dun step7
6.Take two CDC feathers, hold them in parallel position and take off the CDC fibers form one side of the quill.
CDC Dun step8
7.Take the fibers from the other side of the quills
CDC Dun step9
8.Take the fibers from the other side of the quill and trim the root parts
CDC Dun step10
9.spin the thread and tie the CDC fibers in the middle of the thorax
CDC Dun step11
10.tie two CDC tips- leftovers in “V” position
CDC Dun step12
11.apply small amount of fine brown dubbing on the thread and dub the thorax behind  and in front of the wings
CDC Dun step13
12.split the wings and cover the thorax with the thread tied in step 5. Trim the wings in natural shape.Varnish the final knot.
